Job Overview:
The Driver position at Relief International is crucial for ensuring the safe and timely transportation of project staff, visitors, and authorized personnel. The role requires adherence to safety, traffic, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security regulations, as well as RI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The driver is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of passengers and the vehicle, ensuring that the vehicle is in good working condition, and conducting regular inspections. The driver must also keep the vehicle clean and equipped with necessary safety tools. This position supports logistics and administrative functions, assists in loading and unloading goods, and provides messenger services when required. The driver must maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding project activities and report any incidents or concerns immediately. This role is essential for the smooth operation of project activities and requires a commitment to RI’s values and safeguarding policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide safe and timely driving services to project staff, visitors, and other authorized personnel.
  • Follow all safety, traffic, and security regulations, as well as RI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure the safety and security of passengers, the driver, RI vehicle, and RI assets at all times.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of the vehicle and report any needed repairs.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and ensure it is equipped with necessary tools, a first-aid kit, and safety equipment.
  • Complete all required vehicle documentation, including log sheets and fuel consumption reports.
  • Ensure the vehicle has valid registration, insurance, and other required documents.
  • Plan routes efficiently and ensure punctuality while maintaining fuel efficiency.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and maintain fuel logs. 1
  • Support logistics and administrative functions, including delivery and collection of documents and materials. 1
  • Assist in loading and unloading goods and setting up materials for meetings or field activities. 1
  • Provide messenger and errand services and assist with office maintenance. 1
  • Observe confidentiality regarding project activities, staff, and beneficiaries. 1
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or security concerns immediately. 1
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward staff, visitors, and community members. 1
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Project Officer or immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Driver position must possess the following qualifications:
  • A valid and updated professional driver’s license (Restriction 1, 2, or higher).
  • At least 3 years of driving experience, with experience in NGO or humanitarian work being an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Region 8, specifically Northern Samar, and knowledge of major routes and roads in the area.
  • Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • A clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work long hours or travel to field locations when required.
  • Demonstrated punctuality, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to flexible schedules. 1
  • Preferably with TESDA National Certificate II (NC II) in Driving or Defensive Driving certification. 1
  • Knowledge of defensive driving and road safety practices is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Driver position should ideally have completed secondary education. Additionally, possessing a TESDA National Certificate II (NC II) in Driving or a Defensive Driving certification is preferred, as it demonstrates a formal recognition of driving skills and knowledge of road safety practices.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of driving experience. Experience in the NGO or humanitarian sector is considered an advantage, as it indicates familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of driving in such environments. Candidates should also have a proven track record of safe driving and vehicle maintenance.

Languages:
While the job does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is likely essential for communication within the organization and with international staff. Additional Notes:
This position is for a fixed duration of 6 months and reports directly to the Supply Chain and Operations Coordinator, with oversight from the Project Officer on-site.
