Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Human Rights Intern position at OHCHR in Bangkok is a full-time, six-month internship designed to provide practical experience in the field of human rights. The intern will support the organization's mission to protect and promote human rights for all individuals. This role is particularly focused on human rights issues in South-East Asia, including migration, climate change, and public information. The intern will report to a designated manager in the South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) and will engage in various tasks that contribute to the organization's objectives. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of the UN and to contribute to meaningful human rights initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's daily responsibilities will vary based on their background and interests but will generally include the following: monitoring and analyzing human rights developments and trends in South-East Asia; conducting research and drafting internal and external notes and reports; preparing daily news updates on the human rights situation in the region; supporting SEARO's engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, including Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies; assisting in organizing workshops and seminars; maintaining and developing information and resource tools; updating information on the organization's website; participating in meetings and conferences, taking notes as requested; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This role is integral to the functioning of the SEARO office and provides valuable experience in human rights advocacy and policy.
Required Qualifications: Applicants for the UN Internship Programme are not required to have prior professional work experience. However, candidates must be pursuing a field of study closely related to the internship. Eligible applicants include students in their final year of a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or Ph.D. program, or those who have recently completed such programs. It is essential for applicants to indicate their eligibility and provide proof of their academic status with their application.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a relevant academic program, such as a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. degree. The field of study should be closely related to human rights, international relations, law, social sciences, or a similar discipline. Proof of enrollment or completion of the degree will be required during the application process.
Experience: While no professional experience is required, candidates should demonstrate a strong academic background in a relevant field. Experience in research, writing, or advocacy related to human rights issues is advantageous but not mandatory. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
