Job Overview: The Migration Health Officer will play a crucial role in coordinating the migration health portfolio within IOM Niger. This position involves contributing to the development of new health-related projects while also overseeing the implementation and supervision of existing initiatives. The officer will ensure that all activities align with IOM's policies and national health strategies. The role requires a proactive approach to managing migration health activities, including staff management, financial oversight, and compliance with implementation timelines. The officer will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of implementing partners and ensuring adherence to IOM guidelines. Regular data collection, analysis, and reporting on health-related activities will be essential, as will collaboration with health authorities and other stakeholders to identify gaps in migrant health services. The officer will also assist in developing health and migration programs that address public health issues affecting both migrants and host communities, ensuring that medical care provided meets national and IOM standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the implementation of migration health program activities in accordance with IOM policies and national strategies.
Manage the administrative aspects of health-related projects, ensuring compliance with timelines and financial oversight.
Monitor the performance of implementing partners and ensure compliance with IOM guidelines.
Collect, analyze, and present data on migration and health trends to inform program development.
Collaborate with health authorities and partners to identify health needs of migrants.
Develop and implement health and migration projects in coordination with relevant IOM units.
Evaluate the quality of medical care provided to IOM beneficiaries.
Build internal capacities for medical staff through training and technical guidance.
Ensure confidentiality of medical information of beneficiaries. 1
Participate in national and regional taskforces on migration health issues. 1
Undertake any other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
University degree in medicine or a related field with four years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with two years of relevant experience in global public health and migration health.
Experience in managing public health or migration projects.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in medicine from an accredited institution or a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Policy & Management, Epidemiology, or a related field. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A Master's degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred, particularly for candidates with less experience.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant experience in public health and migration health issues, particularly in humanitarian contexts. Experience in managing health service delivery, conducting awareness campaigns, and educational activities is essential. Familiarity with IOM's administrative and financial management processes is advantageous, as is experience working with migrants in the health field. Experience in designing and delivering training programs is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English is considered an advantage. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar roles in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for 24 months. National Professional Officers must be nationals of the country of employment. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements.
