Job Overview: The Economic Recovery Assistant plays a crucial role in the implementation of livelihood and financial inclusion activities under the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Climate Resiliency project. This position is responsible for conducting community awareness sessions, training, assessments, and beneficiary targeting, while building strong partnerships with local stakeholders such as administrators, elders, and community representatives. The role involves active participation in data collection, community mobilization, and providing technical support for project implementation. The Economic Recovery Assistant will closely follow up with beneficiaries, ensuring proper tracking of inputs, outputs, and outcomes, while inspiring them to strengthen and sustain their business activities. The post holder is expected to maintain accurate documentation of all targeted beneficiaries and provide timely updates to the Economic Recovery Officer or Manager. Additionally, the role includes ensuring the sustainability of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) through regular coaching and monitoring of activities, as well as organizing awareness-raising trainings to enhance members' business development and management skills.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Economic Recovery Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Implementing field-level project activities in accordance with DRC standards and objectives.
Facilitating beneficiary orientation, targeting, and documentation of selection processes.
Organizing and facilitating kebele-level trainings and awareness sessions.
Providing technical support to VSLA groups to ensure sustainability through coaching on savings, business diversification, and adherence to bylaws.
Monitoring and supporting the progress of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and ensuring timely loan repayments.
Conducting community awareness campaigns to educate potential VSLA members.
Establishing and training VSLA groups on operational principles.
Supporting new VSLAs with seed money and tailored support based on their maturity stage.
Training VSLA members in marketable skills and facilitating linkages with financial institutions. 1
Providing access to digital financial enablers and conducting basic numeracy training for VSLA members. 1
Ensuring effective coordination and partnership building with government and community stakeholders. 1
Leading community mobilization and facilitating operational activities within the communities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in relevant fields such as Agriculture, Livelihood Development, financial inclusion, and business development. They should have practical experience with Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and a deep understanding of private sector engagement. Experience in early recovery projects, particularly in conflict- and climate-affected areas, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Diploma or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as development economics, Development Management, Accounting and Finance, Agriculture, Rural Development, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or Cooperative and SME Development is required. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience will also be considered.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of professional experience in relevant areas, including Agriculture, Livelihood Development, and financial inclusion. Candidates should have a proven track record in team leadership and technical implementation of economic recovery interventions, particularly in contexts affected by conflict or climate change. Experience supporting entrepreneurs in displacement-affected areas is highly valued.
Languages: Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages, specifically Afar and Amharic, is also required to effectively communicate with community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract length for this position is six months, and it is classified as a national contract at the non-management level (Band: I2). The designated duty station is Abe’ala, Afar, and the start date is as soon as possible. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees.
