Job Overview:
The Technical Support Officer for the BMM Programme will play a crucial role in the implementation and monitoring of the programme's activities in Malawi. This position requires a proactive individual who can provide technical support and assist in coordinating various aspects of the programme. The BMM programme aims to enhance migration governance and cooperation among countries in the East and Horn of Africa region, focusing on the protection of vulnerable migrants and the prevention of trafficking in persons. The officer will work closely with the Chief of Mission and program officer to ensure that the programme's objectives are met and that activities are aligned with international standards. The role involves significant interaction with various stakeholders, including governmental authorities, NGOs, and international organizations, to facilitate effective project implementation and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Support Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, retrieving and analyzing data on specific project topics, and monitoring the project budget. The officer will act as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with different organizational units and external parties to initiate requests and process administrative actions. Additionally, the officer will draft status reports, correspondence on project issues, and prepare various forms of documentation such as reports, briefing notes, and presentations. The role also includes responding to complex information requests, organizing meetings and training sessions, and participating in conferences. The officer will assist in coordinating activities with local authorities and other stakeholders, monitor the work of implementing partners, and provide guidance to new or junior staff members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a school diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant professional experience. The position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively with diverse groups. Familiarity with migration issues and the ability to navigate complex bureaucratic environments are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a school diploma with extensive relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, or Law. The degree must be from an accredited academic institution, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in the principles and practices relevant to migration management and humanitarian assistance.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, and UN agencies. Experience working with migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable groups is crucial, as is prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting. This experience will enable the officer to effectively navigate the complexities of migration issues and collaborate with various stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with external partners. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region, such as French or local languages, would be considered an asset, enhancing the officer's ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
