Job Overview:
The Technical Support Officer position is crucial for the implementation of the Better Migration Management (BMM) programme in Malawi. The officer will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the program officer, providing essential technical support in coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on activities related to the migration protection component of the BMM programme. This role is designed for a proactive individual who can effectively contribute to improving migration management in the Eastern and Southern Africa region, particularly in addressing issues related to Trafficking in Persons (TiP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM). The officer will be expected to strengthen national and regional migration governance, enhance cooperation among various stakeholders, and ensure the protection of vulnerable migrants, particularly women and children, in line with international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Support Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: assisting in the coordination and monitoring of operational, administrative, and financial aspects of the project in accordance with IOM policies and donor requirements; keeping the supervisor informed about project implementation status and identifying gaps; participating in the development and adjustment of work plans, project budgets, and monitoring and evaluation tools; coordinating the collection and analysis of data; updating information management systems and social media platforms; preparing and disseminating project reports; liaising with donors, partners, and stakeholders; contributing to capacity-building activities; attending relevant conferences and meetings; participating in project proposal preparations; supervising and training project staff; and undertaking duty travel for project-related activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution, along with two years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in the aforementioned fields is acceptable. The role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, or Law. A Master’s degree in these areas is also acceptable and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and victims of trafficking is essential. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to navigate complex environments and work effectively with diverse groups.

Languages:
