In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

The main roles of UN Women are:
> To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview: The Business Function Specialist will play a crucial role in managing the enhancements of the Planning, Reporting and Information System for Management (PRISM) within UN Women. This position involves overseeing the implementation of the Planning, Monitoring and Reporting (PMR) Policy, ensuring that the system meets the needs of various stakeholders across the organization. The specialist will work closely with the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) and Information Systems and Telecommunications (IST) to develop and enhance PRISM, ensuring it is fit for purpose for planning, monitoring, reporting, and data visualization. The role requires a strong understanding of results-based management (RBM) and the ability to coordinate testing, rollout, and integration of PRISM with other corporate systems. The incumbent will also be responsible for training and supporting users to ensure broad adoption of the system across UN Women’s offices globally.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the testing and rollout of PRISM Monitoring, Reporting, Dashboards, and Reports under the PMR Policy, ensuring functionality and usability for end users.
Oversee end-to-end testing of the Monitoring and Reporting module, validating that dashboards and reporting features align with business needs.
Document issues identified during testing and work with IST to resolve them before rollout.
Lead the rollout process, including pilot testing and user feedback collection.
Support the socialization and adoption of PRISM features through training and guidance materials.
Ensure IST technical staff understand the monitoring and reporting requirements under the PMR Policy.
Maintain close follow-up with IST on system enhancements, ensuring alignment with requirements.
Proactively identify risks associated with enhancements and work with IST to address them.
Contribute to the design and development of corporate system integration, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities. 1
Actively participate in system-related meetings and provide inputs to ongoing corporate processes. 1
Prepare high-quality materials for senior managers and external stakeholders, highlighting PRISM’s contributions to transparency and accountability.
Required Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of UN corporate systems and strategic planning at the inter-agency level.
Good understanding of RBM application in planning, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation.
Ability to link institutional processes to promote organizational effectiveness.
Strong organizational skills and analytical abilities.
Team player with the ability to introduce new approaches and strategic innovations.
Knowledge of UN system policies related to planning and results management.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent in development-related disciplines, statistics, economics, business administration, information systems, computer science, ICT, or other social science fields is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at national, regional, or international levels in results-based planning, monitoring, and/or reporting is required. At least 2 years of experience in coordinating business and functional requirements gathering processes for corporate results management systems within the UN system is necessary. Additionally, 2 years of experience using corporate systems such as results management systems or Oracle Cloud-based ERP systems for planning, monitoring, or reporting is required. Experience in gender equality and women’s rights at various levels is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
Additional Notes: This is a temporary appointment position for a duration of 364 days. The appointment does not carry any expectancy of renewal and cannot be converted to any other type of appointment.
