The office is also responsible for leading and coordinating the UN system’s work on gender equality in India, ensuring accountability for results.

Job Overview:
The Communications Consultant (Design and Social Media) will report to the Head of Communications and will play a crucial role in supporting the conceptualization and design of media products for UN Women India. The primary goal of this position is to enhance the visibility and awareness of UN Women among partners, the media, and the public. The consultant will be responsible for managing social media handles and performing administrative tasks for the Communications team. This role requires a creative individual who can provide design support in developing coherent communications and advocacy materials that align with the India Country Office's communication goals. The consultant will work on a variety of projects, utilizing different software programs to create innovative graphic designs that meet organizational standards and brand expectations. Additionally, the consultant will be tasked with conceptualizing and designing high-quality materials for web-based communications, including multimedia tools, infographics, and print materials, ensuring that all communications highlight the achievements of various programs and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Communications Consultant include:
  • Providing creative and design support for the development of communications and advocacy materials, including newsletters, brochures, and reports.
  • Conceptualizing and designing high-quality, innovative materials for web-based communications, ensuring they are attention-grabbing and aligned with the established brand identity.
  • Managing the India Country Office’s social media presence across platforms such as Twitter/X, Facebook, and Instagram, including content posting, tagging, and sharing.
  • Drafting content for the Regional Office LinkedIn account on behalf of the India Country Office.
  • Maintaining files, databases, and systems relevant to the digital presence of the India Country Office, providing timely updates on engagement metrics and supporting social media reporting.
  • Contributing to knowledge management by identifying best practices and lessons learned, and exchanging information with other Country Offices and Regional Offices.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor and providing support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the India Country Office.
  • Working independently and cooperatively with teams to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Communications Consultant position include:
  • A strong understanding of design principles and the ability to create, edit, and present information in clear and visually appealing formats.
  • Knowledge of social media and communication strategies, tools, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in using various software applications for graphic design, including Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and other relevant AI design tools.
  • Familiarity with web-based management systems and analytical tools such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics.
  • Excellent event planning skills and the ability to identify relevant events and stories for communication to a mass audience.
  • Strong multimedia skills to create engaging content across different platforms.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, public relations, or journalism. A Master’s degree in Communications is desirable and would be considered an asset for this role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in providing design and creative support for the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies. Experience in using computer applications and software packages relevant to design and communication is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in social media and digital communication, as well as familiarity with analytical tools to assess engagement and effectiveness.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Hindi is required for this position. A working knowledge of another UN official working language is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
This position is expected to be a consultancy role, and consultants are required to use their own computer equipment as the office will not provide any. Travel and Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) will be booked and settled according to consultant contract norms. The evaluation process for selecting candidates will include a presentation-based interview and the submission of design and writing samples, with a link to a design portfolio if available.
