Job Overview: The (Associate) Investment Officer position is part of the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) team in South Asia, focusing on the Services sectors, which include tourism, retail, property, health, and education. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting IFC's activities in these sectors, requiring strong technical skills in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions, as well as portfolio management. The role involves developing strategies to grow IFC's South Asia Services business and managing day-to-day responsibilities related to transactions and portfolios. The officer will report to the IFC Regional Industry Manager for Services in South Asia, working closely with colleagues in the region and globally on business development, investment transaction execution, and client relationship management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The (Associate) Investment Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: developing a strong pipeline of quality investment opportunities through proactive origination and business development; leading transactions and teams to evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, and capital increases; creating innovative financial structures for complex transactions involving debt, equity, and mezzanine investments; communicating credit analysis and investment proposals clearly and succinctly; negotiating term sheets and legal documentation; providing high-quality client service throughout the project cycle; building and maintaining strong relationships with regional clients, businesses, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials; mentoring and developing junior staff; assisting in the formulation and monitoring of IFC's strategy in the Services sectors; and coordinating with social, environmental, governance, and technical assistance colleagues to add value to clients' businesses and achieve sustainable development impact.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an MBA or a master's degree in finance or an equivalent qualification. They should have at least 5-10 years of relevant work experience in a private equity firm, commercial bank, investment bank, or international financial institution with significant emerging markets presence. Experience in a lead role in investment transactions, with a proven track record in developing client relationships and successfully sourcing, negotiating, structuring, and closing quality investments, is essential. Strong expertise in services sectors such as tourism, retail, commercial and residential property, health, and education is required, along with knowledge of investing in emerging markets and a strong network in South Asia being a plus.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an MBA or a master's degree in finance or a related field. This advanced education is crucial for understanding complex financial instruments and investment strategies necessary for the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant work experience. This experience should ideally be in a lead role within investment transactions, showcasing a successful track record in developing client relationships and effectively managing investment processes. Candidates should have experience in emerging markets, particularly in sectors relevant to the Services industries.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with clients.
