Job Overview:
The internship at UNICEF's European Partnerships Office offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in the field of international development and humanitarian affairs. Interns will support the EU Institutions Section, engaging in various activities that promote children's rights and UNICEF's priorities within EU policies and programs. The role involves direct involvement in partnership development, advocacy, and strategic engagement with EU institutions, providing interns with a comprehensive understanding of UNICEF's global mission and operations. Interns will work closely with supervisors to contribute to key thematic areas such as health, nutrition, education, and migration, while also participating in high-level events and meetings that shape EU-UNICEF collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for monitoring developments in EU development and humanitarian programming, supporting the creation of analytical briefs, and assisting in strategic engagement efforts. They will help organize key events, prepare background materials, and maintain knowledge management products. Additionally, interns will gather and analyze data related to UNICEF’s priorities, assist in advocacy efforts to influence EU institutions, and support communications initiatives targeting a diverse range of stakeholders. This role requires a proactive approach to learning and contributing to UNICEF's mission.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) and be recent graduates within two years of degree completion. They should be at least 18 years old and provide a copy of their official transcript demonstrating excellent academic performance. A letter of recommendation is also required, along with eligibility to live in Belgium for the internship duration. Candidates must not have immediate relatives working at UNICEF and must adhere to the organization's ethical standards.

Educational Background:
A university degree in fields such as human rights, political science, international relations, international finance and economics, international development, or humanitarian aid is essential. Familiarity with EU institutions and policies is highly advantageous, as is a demonstrated interest in children's rights and UNICEF's mandate.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, familiarity with the functioning of EU institutions and any related experience will be considered a strong asset. Interns should demonstrate strong writing, research, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to synthesize information effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Knowledge of French and/or another EU language is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate with a broader range of stakeholders within the EU context.

The internship is a full-time, in-person position based in Brussels, Belgium, lasting for six months starting in November 202
  • Interns will receive ongoing supervision and coaching, a stipend to assist with transportation and meal costs, and will be expected to enroll in a health/accident plan prior to starting. The internship does not guarantee employment afterward, and candidates must be legally eligible to reside in Belgium for the entire duration of the internship. The position may be terminated by either party with a notice period of at least two weeks.
