Job Overview:
The Information Technology Assistant position at the WHO Country Office in the Philippines is crucial for supporting the administrative and operational functions of the office's Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Operations Officer and the guidance of the Head of the WHO Country Office. This role involves providing technical support for the administration of the office's IT infrastructure, ensuring that all hardware and software meet the required standards, and facilitating the implementation of various computer applications that enhance workflow. The position requires a proactive approach to maintaining the IT systems, conducting training for staff, and assessing the ICT needs of the office to align with national health programs. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that the WHO Country Office operates efficiently and effectively in delivering health services to the population.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Information Technology Assistant include:
  • Providing routine technical support for the administration and operation of the Country Office’s LAN and WAN, including managing hardware/software requirements and network protocols.
  • Implementing and maintaining server backups in accordance with the backup policy for country offices.
  • Coordinating with the Information Technology unit in the Regional Office for the installation, setup, and training of computer applications.
  • Installing and configuring new hardware and software for the Country Office and WHO-supported projects, ensuring compliance with standards set by the Regional Office.
  • Assisting in the assessment of ICT needs and communicating results to the Regional Office for coordination and approval.
  • Preparing and verifying receiving reports for newly received data processing equipment and dispatching them to the Regional Office.
  • Performing any other ICT-related tasks as assigned by the Head of the WHO Country Office or the Regional Office Information Technology unit.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Information Technology Assistant position include:
  • Completion of secondary education with formal training in informatics and communication technology.
  • Advanced training in IT-related courses, particularly in Microsoft Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite, is desirable.
  • WHO considers only higher educational qualifications obtained from accredited institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education with formal training in informatics and communication technology. Advanced training in IT-related courses, especially those related to Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite, is highly desirable. WHO only recognizes educational qualifications from institutions accredited by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in computer operation/application, hardware maintenance/troubleshooting, and software support. Experience in a UN environment or other large organizations is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of microcomputer operations and networking environments.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not mandatory.
