Job Overview:
The Senior Project Associate (Protection) will play a crucial role in managing IOM Hungary's protection programs aimed at supporting migrants, refugees, and vulnerable populations. This position involves overseeing the implementation of various projects, ensuring compliance with IOM standards and donor requirements, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring project activities, analyzing challenges, and making recommendations for adjustments to work plans as necessary. Additionally, the role requires regular research and analysis of relevant developments in the field of migration and protection, as well as the preparation of reports and documentation for stakeholders. The Senior Project Associate will also conduct capacity-building workshops and maintain effective communication with local authorities and partners, ensuring that the organization's objectives are met efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Independently lead and coordinate the implementation of protection-related projects, ensuring alignment with established plans and objectives.
  • Monitor project activities and expenditures, verifying the availability of funds and maintaining accurate records of project budgets.
  • Conduct regular research and analysis of national, regional, and international developments related to migration and protection, presenting findings to relevant parties.
  • Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and NGOs to foster collaboration and coordination.
  • Prepare correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, and narrative and financial reports, ensuring timely submission.
  • Document good practices and lessons learned, contributing to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and new project proposals.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to reporting staff, ensuring effective performance and professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the National Project Officer.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a school diploma with seven years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution, along with five years of relevant professional experience. Experience in liaising with governmental authorities and working with vulnerable populations is essential. Strong knowledge of protection frameworks and humanitarian response is required, along with excellent communication and coordination skills. Candidates should also have experience in developing training materials and conducting capacity-building sessions, as well as advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.

Educational Background:
A school diploma with seven years of relevant experience is acceptable; however, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, or Law from an accredited academic institution is preferred. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable groups is crucial. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate complex environments and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Hungarian is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and Spanish, is considered beneficial, as IOM's official languages include these. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may involve written and/or oral assessments.

This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Hungary will be eligible for consideration.
