Job Overview:
The Project Assistant (Counter-Trafficking) will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of IOM’s Counter-Trafficking Projects. This position requires collaboration with the Senior Project Associate (Protection) and the National Project Officer (Head of Programmes) to ensure effective project delivery. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying delivery shortfalls, contributing to research activities, and assisting in the organization of prevention activities. Additionally, the role involves supporting communication efforts related to the projects, engaging with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. The Project Assistant will also be tasked with monitoring budget implementation and facilitating accurate data reporting to donors, thereby ensuring the overall success of the projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant include:
  • Collaborating closely with the Senior Project Associate (Protection) to support the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of program activities.
  • Identifying delivery shortfalls and suggesting corrective measures to the supervisor.
  • Contributing to the implementation of research activities and preparing research reports.
  • Participating in organizing and implementing prevention activities and events within the project framework.
  • Supporting the Media and Communications Specialist in developing communication materials related to the projects.
  • Participating in the selection of external service providers and supervising their work.
  • Cooperating with Consortium Partners and other project partners to ensure efficient implementation of activities.
  • Engaging with governmental and civil society organizations to combat human trafficking.
  • Monitoring budget implementation and proposing adjustments as necessary. 1
  • Facilitating continuous and accurate data reporting to the donor. 1
  • Drafting correspondence on project issues and preparing program documentation. 1
  • Facilitating the implementation of the projects’ Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plan. 1
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Project Assistant position include:
  • A high school diploma/certificate with 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in similar roles and tasks related to project management and implementation.
  • Proven experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, and NGOs.
  • Experience working with victims of human trafficking or socially disadvantaged groups is highly desirable.
  • Prior work experience with intergovernmental organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Research experience is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or certificate with 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have significant experience in roles similar to that of a Project Assistant, particularly in tasks related to project management and implementation. Candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, and NGOs. Experience working with victims of human trafficking or other vulnerable groups is essential, and prior work experience with intergovernmental organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is advantageous. Research experience is also beneficial for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in Hungarian and English, both oral and written, is required for this position. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.

The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Hungary will be considered. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation.
