Job Overview:
The Associate Investment Officer position within the Blended Finance Department at IFC is a pivotal role that focuses on optimizing the co-investment of funds from contributors to support impactful projects in developing countries. This position is integral to the execution of IFC’s 3.0 strategy, which aims to create markets and enhance the effectiveness of blended finance initiatives. The successful candidate will work on high-impact projects across various industries and regions, contributing to the identification, assessment, and structuring of blended finance transactions. This role offers the opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders, including public and private sector partners, and to contribute to the development of innovative financing solutions that address market barriers. The position requires a proactive approach to project origination and marketing, as well as collaboration with internal teams to ensure the successful implementation of blended finance strategies. The Associate Investment Officer will report to the Blended Finance Senior Manager and will be expected to work in a dynamic and results-oriented environment, contributing to the overall mission of IFC.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Investment Officer include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborating with teams to identify and assess potential blended finance projects, including those processed under various blended finance facilities such as IDA PSW, CCW, FOF, and others.
  • Contributing to origination and marketing activities across the Africa cluster, which may involve preparing pitch books, conducting workshops, and collaborating with regional management to identify opportunities.
  • Assisting in the investment structuring related to blended finance components of projects, including risk modeling and assessing product structures that meet project needs.
  • Working closely with IFC investment teams to prepare documentation for blended finance co-investments and contributing to investment proposals and Board documentation.
  • Attending appraisals as needed to provide additional skills and analysis for blended finance transactions.
  • Monitoring and assessing the performance of contributor-funded projects, identifying risks and weaknesses in the portfolio.
  • Analyzing client requests related to disbursements, waivers, and amendments for co-investments.
  • Preparing analytical reports, strategy documents, and project profiles.
  • Contributing to knowledge management initiatives and communication products to share lessons learned with stakeholders. 1
  • Engaging with donors and supporting fundraising efforts as needed. 1
  • Participating in departmental initiatives to enhance the practice and business case for blended finance.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Associate Investment Officer position include:
  • An MBA or graduate degree with a specialization in finance or investment strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in cross-border emerging market investments, with a proven track record in structuring, executing, and managing complex investment transactions.
  • Experience in investment and portfolio management processes, including equity, quasi-equity, loans, guarantees, and investment documentation.
  • A solid understanding of investment practices and current issues in blended finance investments is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify key issues and manage stakeholder interests effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in additional languages such as French, Portuguese, or Spanish being advantageous.
  • A commercial interest in development issues and sustainable development.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Associate Investment Officer position should possess an MBA or a graduate degree, ideally with a specialization in finance or investment. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of blended finance transactions and investment structuring.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in the field of cross-border emerging market investments. Candidates should have a strong track record in structuring, executing, and managing complex investment transactions, which may include experience in local currency, capital markets, and structured finance. Familiarity with investment and portfolio management processes is crucial, as is the ability to navigate the challenges and opportunities associated with blended finance investments.

Languages:
