Job Overview: The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer position at WFP is crucial for the daily planning and coordination of logistics operations. The role involves monitoring services provided by contracted external organizations to ensure cost-effective operations and the achievement of set objectives. The officer will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on information to maximize the efficiency of logistics operations. This position is based in Niamey and reports directly to the Head of Unit. The officer will contribute to the development of logistics plans and processes, ensuring compliance with WFP standards and policies. The role requires a proactive approach to managing logistics projects and operational activities, directly impacting the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries. The Logistics Officer will also engage in data collection and analysis to recommend actions for improving local logistics performance, conduct financial analyses, and support the management of operational aspects of the supply chain, including procurement and shipping.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Logistics Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: contributing to the development of logistics plans and processes; supporting or managing logistics projects; collecting and analyzing data to recommend actions for performance improvement; conducting financial analysis and budget reviews; preparing operational pipeline planning; managing operational aspects of the supply chain; providing technical support and guidance to other units; supervising junior staff; preparing accurate and timely reporting, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners; identifying and building relationships with logistics colleagues; participating in emergency logistics preparedness; reviewing internal processes for efficiency; and acting in an emergency response capacity as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field, with at least three years of post-graduate experience. Alternatively, a first university degree with five additional years of related work experience and/or training is acceptable. Desired qualifications include experience in commercial or humanitarian transportation sectors, monitoring and reporting on transport and freight market conditions, dealing with customs officials for shipments, coordinating procurement and transportation processes, and managing warehouse and commodity operations. Familiarity with corporate systems and databases is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or Business Management. Candidates with a first university degree may qualify if they have additional years of relevant work experience. The emphasis is on obtaining a strong foundation in logistics and supply chain management principles, as well as practical experience in the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience for candidates with an advanced degree, or five years for those with a first university degree. Experience in the logistics sector, particularly in humanitarian contexts, is highly valued. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing logistics operations, conducting financial analyses, and working collaboratively with various teams to achieve operational goals.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with a level C proficiency required. Additionally, proficiency in the local language of the duty station (French) is also necessary for effective communication and collaboration within the team and with local stakeholders.
