Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the execution of the global project under the GEF funded planetGOLD programme by consulting with key partners and national focal points on knowledge management and communication priorities.
Contribute to website maintenance, content creation, editing, and dissemination of information.
Assist in programmatic quarterly and yearly reporting and data analytics/visualization.
Coordinate logistical aspects of global events, including annual meetings.
Contribute to other GEF funded mercury projects, focusing on mercury-added products and primary mercury mining.
Liaise with the UNEP GEF Unit regarding administrative aspects and internal agreements.
Support the Secretariat of the Global Mercury Partnership and contribute to new project proposals and guides.
Engage with stakeholders across various divisions within UNEP and contribute to tasks related to UNEA decisions.
Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree or equivalent in a field related to environment/natural sciences, environmental engineering, or environmental governance is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in the environmental domain, particularly in sound management of chemicals and waste, is essential. Experience with GEF projects is also required, along with strong analytical, research, and drafting skills.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as environmental sciences or governance. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience, demonstrating the flexibility in educational requirements for this position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the environmental sector, particularly in managing chemicals and waste. Experience with GEF projects is essential, and candidates should have a strong understanding of the environmentally sound management of mercury from both technical and policy perspectives. Experience in organizing international multi-stakeholder events is also desirable, along with skills in data analysis and capacity building.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French and Spanish is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
