Job Overview: This internship is designed to provide practical experience in the workings of the United Nations, specifically within the OHRLLS. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the office's mission of supporting the least developed countries and other vulnerable states. The internship is full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, and is expected to last between two to six months, depending on the needs of the department and the intern's performance. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member and will have the opportunity to learn about the UN's operations, engage in research, and assist in drafting official documents. The internship may also offer flexible work arrangements, including hybrid options, to accommodate the successful candidate's needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, which may include: assisting in drafting and preparing official documents, attending and summarizing conferences and meetings, conducting document, legal, and internet research, providing assistance during conferences, working on web presentations, evaluating projects, compiling statistics, performing media analysis, and engaging in speechwriting. The specific duties will depend on the intern's background, the assigned office, and the internship period. Interns are expected to work five days a week and contribute actively to the team's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree must be provided with the application.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship position, ensuring that the intern can contribute effectively to the office's work.
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This is an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in an international organization.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset.
