Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Digital Content Creation is crucial for supporting the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which takes place annually from November 25 to December 1
In 2025, UN Women Uganda, in collaboration with national partners, will implement a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness, amplifying the voices of survivors, and mobilizing action to end violence against women and girls. The selected volunteers will be responsible for creating impactful digital content tailored for various social media platforms, ensuring that the campaign messaging is coherent and engaging. This role requires creativity, collaboration, and a strong understanding of digital media to effectively reach and engage the target audience, particularly youth.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer include creating weekly, platform-specific content for one assigned social media channel, which may include Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube. Volunteers will collaborate with fellow volunteers and UN Women Uganda’s communications team to ensure that the campaign messaging is coherent across all platforms. They will be tasked with developing engaging multimedia materials such as graphics, short videos, and captions that align with the campaign themes and branding. Additionally, volunteers will provide recommendations on strategies to expand audience engagement, reach youth audiences, and mobilize online supporters and donors. Deliverables include producing 12 social media posts (one per week) tailored to the assigned platform, creating a 12-week content calendar detailing themes, formats, and posting schedules, developing at least 12 multimedia assets optimized for each platform, and compiling an end-of-campaign analytics report summarizing engagement, reach, and lessons learned.
Required Qualifications: The position requires volunteers to have a strong understanding of social media platforms and digital content creation. Candidates should possess creativity and the ability to develop engaging multimedia content that resonates with diverse audiences. Familiarity with graphic design tools and video editing software is highly desirable. Volunteers should also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A passion for gender equality and women's empowerment is essential, as is a commitment to the mission of UN Women.
Educational Background: While specific educational qualifications are not explicitly stated, a background in communications, marketing, media studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of digital marketing strategies and social media engagement techniques. Relevant coursework or experience in content creation, graphic design, or video production would be beneficial.
Experience: The position is open to individuals with varying levels of experience, including students, recent graduates, or professionals looking to contribute their skills to a meaningful cause. Previous experience in social media management, content creation, or digital marketing is advantageous but not mandatory. The emphasis is on a willingness to learn and contribute to the campaign's success.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and content will be developed in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in Uganda, would be considered an asset, as it may help in reaching a broader audience and enhancing engagement.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the commitment is expected to align with the campaign timeline, which spans 12 weeks. The role is part-time, allowing volunteers to manage their time effectively while contributing to a significant cause. Volunteers will gain valuable experience in digital content creation and social media strategy, as well as the opportunity to work with a reputable international organization dedicated to gender equality.
