Job Overview:

The intern will work under the direct supervision of the project lead, focusing on enhancing inclusive governance processes and promoting meaningful youth participation in policy-making and civic life. This role is integral to flagship initiatives such as the UN Joint Programme on Youth and the project 'Advancing Inclusive Governance – Empowering Youth Voices.' The intern will engage in both online and offline strategies, utilizing civic technology tools and innovative outreach methods to strengthen youth involvement in governance. Responsibilities will include supporting policy reforms, fostering partnerships, and assisting in capacity-building sessions for youth leaders, as well as developing communication materials and coordinating with partners to ensure youth voices are central to governance dialogues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Research and Analysis: The intern will support research and analysis related to inclusive governance and youth participation, contributing to the mapping of relevant policies and actors. They will assist in advocacy initiatives aimed at drafting and implementing laws that promote inclusive governance.
• Knowledge Generation and Advocacy: The intern will draft research and advocacy briefs, produce knowledge products such as policy notes, and support internal programming and engagement with partners.
• Programme Design and Implementation: Responsibilities include providing administrative and research support for programme activities, preparing workplans and knowledge products, and contributing to programme monitoring through data collection and analysis. The intern will also provide logistical support for meetings and outreach activities.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Logistics: The intern will assist in planning and organizing meetings and workshops, preparing materials for stakeholder engagements, and maintaining an updated database of stakeholders.
• Other Duties: Additional tasks may be assigned to support the GIG Unit's mandate on governance and inclusive growth.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in social sciences, Political Science, Development Studies, Communication, or a related field, or have graduated from such a program within the past year. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, excellent writing and editing skills, and an interest in digital tools and AI are advantageous. The ability to multitask and manage small assignments independently is also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in social sciences, Political Science, Development Studies, Communication, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of governance and youth participation.

Experience:
The position requires familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with excellent writing and editing skills. Experience with digital communication tools and social media platforms is beneficial. The intern should be able to multitask and manage small assignments independently, demonstrating a proactive approach to learning and contributing to the team.
