Job Overview: The Snr Information Management Assistant will play a crucial role within the Information Management Unit at UNHCR Mexico Country Office (COMEX). This position involves working with large datasets and producing essential information products that support decision-making processes for Senior Management and Field Offices. The role requires a proactive approach to data management, ensuring that information is accurate, timely, and relevant to the needs of UNHCR's operations in Mexico. The assistant will be responsible for compiling, processing, analyzing, and presenting data, as well as developing new information systems and applications to enhance operational efficiency. The position also entails supporting the preparation of various statistical reports and updates, contributing to the overall effectiveness of UNHCR's response to the refugee situation in Mexico.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Snr Information Management Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the planning and production of standard and ad hoc reports; compiling and analyzing data for statistical and analytical reports; creating infographics and visual representations of data; supporting the development of interoperable information systems; maintaining monitoring frameworks for protection incidents; producing weekly and monthly reports on asylum applications; coordinating data collection exercises; ensuring data quality and consistency; and providing training and guidance on information management standards. The assistant will also be involved in the operationalization of data standards and contribute to the continuous improvement of UNHCR's data systems and workflows.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Demography, Geography, Information Technology, Data Visualization & Graphic Design, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of relevant work experience. Alternatively, candidates with secondary education and post-secondary training/certificate in the aforementioned fields, combined with at least four years of relevant work experience, will also be considered. Desirable qualifications include proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, strong quantitative and analytical skills, experience with confidential data handling, and familiarity with data collection methodologies and platforms. Knowledge of GIS software and web design is also advantageous.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Demography, Geography, Information Technology, Data Visualization & Graphic Design is required. Candidates with secondary education and additional training or certification in these areas, along with significant work experience, may also qualify. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in data analysis, visualization, and information management principles.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience for candidates with a bachelor's degree, or four years for those with secondary education and additional training. Experience should include data management, analysis, and reporting, particularly in contexts related to humanitarian assistance or refugee support. Familiarity with data visualization tools and methodologies is essential, as is the ability to work with large datasets and produce high-quality information products.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of UNHCR.
Additional Notes: This position is offered under a UNOPS Local ICA contract until December 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension. The role is full-time and requires candidates to be either Mexican nationals or hold a valid work permit in Mexico. Candidates must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to recruitment.
