Job Overview:
The Information Management Officer/Sr. Information Management Officer position within the IMF’s African Department (AFR) is a critical role focused on coordinating data management activities. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the data used for economic analysis and policy advice is clean, reliable, and well-organized. This position requires a motivated and technically proficient individual who can champion the adoption of innovative tools and technologies to enhance data management practices. The officer will work closely with senior staff to develop strategic directions for data management policies and practices, manage data management projects, and promote best practices across the department. The role also involves fostering a skilled community of research analysts and coordinating training sessions related to data management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting senior staff by providing strategic advice on data management policies and practices within AFR and the IMF.
  • Managing the implementation of data management projects in alignment with the Fund’s Data Management Strategy, ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Contributing to the development and enhancement of data management and visualization tools.
  • Assisting in the application of advanced analytical methods, such as machine learning and statistical modeling, to improve data quality and collection processes.
  • Promoting best practices in data and information management by providing guidance to AFR country teams.
  • Building relationships across AFR and with other departments, such as Statistics (STA) and Technology (ITD), to influence the adoption of effective data management practices.
  • Coordinating training sessions for research analysts and facilitating regular interactions on data management issues.
  • Completing any additional projects or assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as information technology/systems, computer science, statistics, finance, mathematics, economics, or a related area. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience, is acceptable. Additionally, candidates should have strong skills in data visualization, statistical modeling, econometrics, and machine learning, with proficiency in tools such as STATA, SAS, R, MATLAB, Python, and SQL. Knowledge of economic data management lifecycles, including data collection, analysis, warehousing, and dissemination, is essential. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, along with excellent written and oral communication abilities, are also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as information technology/systems, computer science, statistics, finance, mathematics, economics, or a related discipline. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, combined with significant professional experience, may also be considered sufficient for applicants.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree, or at least two years of experience in a related position at grade A8 or equivalent for those with a Master’s degree.
