Job Overview: The Protection Team Leader will operate under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator, taking charge of daily activities and collaborating across various departments. This role involves working closely with other Sector Specialists to oversee Gender-Based Violence (GBV) activities under the ISH-E III project in the Somali (Liben and Afder) and Oromia regions, specifically in Negele Borena. The position requires close collaboration with other team leaders within the sector and the organization, ensuring that program goals are met and expectations are fulfilled. The Protection Team Leader will be responsible for implementing quality GBV prevention and response activities, building capacity within the team, and contributing to ongoing assessments to better understand protection risks and service points for survivors of GBV and vulnerable individuals. Additionally, the role involves analyzing GBV trends and suggesting program strategy adjustments to meet the needs of the affected populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Protection Team Leader include overseeing the implementation of GBV prevention and response activities, strengthening case management and referral systems, and developing appropriate prevention and awareness-raising strategies. The leader will support Protection staff in becoming leaders in GBV prevention and response through training in various areas such as gender principles, GBV case management, and project cycle management. The role also involves organizing and supporting training for healthcare providers, compiling accurate monthly and quarterly reports, and coordinating with local and international NGOs, UN agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive support for survivors. The Protection Team Leader will actively participate in protection/GBV working groups, contribute to inter-agency initiatives, and promote FHI 360 as a leading agency in Protection. Additionally, the role includes human resources management, financial management, and ensuring compliance with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols and policies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BA Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Gender, Psychology, Law, Social Work, Public Health, or Social Science. A Master's degree in a related field is considered a plus. The position requires 6+ years of relevant experience, particularly in implementing or leading GBV and/or gender-focused projects in emergencies. Practical experience in a team leader role is advantageous, along with experience working with internally displaced people and conflict-affected communities in Ethiopia. Previous experience in NGOs and INGOs is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate supervisory skills and proficiency in written and spoken English. Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft applications and standard office equipment, is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a BA Degree or its international equivalent in relevant fields such as Gender, Psychology, Law, Social Work, Public Health, or Social Science. A Master's degree in a related field is an added advantage, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, particularly in implementing or leading GBV and/or gender-focused projects in emergency settings. Candidates should have practical experience in a team leader capacity, as well as experience working with internally displaced persons and conflict-affected communities in Ethiopia. Previous experience in both NGOs and INGOs is mandatory, demonstrating the candidate's ability to navigate complex humanitarian environments effectively.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of local languages relevant to the regions of Somali and Oromia is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication and engagement with the communities served by the program.
