Job Overview: The Investment Officer/Senior Investment Officer position within the Africa Infrastructure department of the IFC is pivotal for sourcing, executing, and supervising investment transactions across various infrastructure sectors, including energy, transport, telecoms, and municipal & environmental infrastructure. The role is designed for professionals who are adept at managing complex investment projects and possess a strong understanding of the infrastructure landscape in Africa. The selected candidate will be responsible for the origination, negotiation, structuring, and ongoing supervision of investment projects, ensuring that they align with the IFC's mission of promoting sustainable development. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying new investment opportunities, executing transactions, and managing a diverse portfolio of projects that contribute to economic growth and development in the region. Duties and Responsibilities: The Investment Officer/Senior Investment Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities that include:
Business Development: Actively sourcing and assessing new investment opportunities, identifying bankable projects, and synthesizing information into internal reports for decision-making.
Structuring and Negotiation: Evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new debt and equity transactions, including portfolio restructurings and capital increases.
Deal Execution and Transaction Management: Ensuring timely and efficient delivery of transactions, monitoring portfolio performance, and coordinating with various teams to address project challenges.
Portfolio Supervision: Leading the management of the investment portfolio, monitoring profitability and development impact, and ensuring compliance with IFC requirements.
Strategy Development and Knowledge Sharing: Contributing to sector strategies and sharing best practices to enhance IFC's knowledge base.
Coordination with WBG: Collaborating with World Bank and MIGA colleagues to support sector reforms and attract private sector capital.
Mentoring and Coaching: Providing guidance and support to less-experienced colleagues to build talent within the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in finance, business, or a related field. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in a development finance institution, commercial bank, international financial institution, or private equity firm is required. A proven track record in sourcing, structuring, and closing private investment projects in infrastructure sectors is essential, with a focus on the African market. Strong business development and client relationship skills are necessary, along with sound business judgment in identifying leads. Candidates should have deep industry knowledge of at least one infrastructure sector and the ability to interact with senior management and government officials. Project and corporate finance experience, along with strong credit skills, are also required.
