Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is within the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA), which is the regional chapter of the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM). This initiative represents the largest alliance of cities and sub-national governments committed to ambitious climate action, with over 13,000 members globally. The intern will work closely with the Programme Coordination Unit to support the objectives of CoM SSA Phase IV, which focuses on enhancing access to finance for climate-resilient urban infrastructure. The role emphasizes research and knowledge generation, contributing to the production of evidence and insights related to climate finance and resource mobilization. This will aid in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and project preparation efforts, ultimately supporting local authorities in Sub-Saharan Africa to implement effective climate and energy strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including conducting research and preparing analytical briefs on urban climate finance and infrastructure topics. They will assist in identifying and summarizing available funding mechanisms such as grants, concessional loans, and blended finance for urban climate infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa. The intern will also review and categorize urban infrastructure projects supported by CoM SSA, focusing on their readiness for funding, including assessing the stage of development, financing gaps, and alignment with donor criteria. Additionally, the intern will organize meetings, prepare materials, talking points, and presentations, and document meetings, including creating communication materials. They will also act as a focal point for interns in implementing countries, facilitating communication and collaboration on joint tasks and work streams.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a relevant Master's program in fields such as International Development, Communications, International Relations, Urban Development, or a related discipline. If recently graduated, the degree should have been completed no more than six months prior to the internship start date. Strong writing, research, and analytical skills are essential, along with an interest in developing project management and stakeholder coordination skills. Attention to detail and proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are also required. Initial experience in development cooperation and/or the private sector is advantageous, as is a keen interest in climate change and sustainable development.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree in a relevant field such as International Development, Communications, International Relations, Urban Development, or a related discipline. If the candidate has recently graduated, the degree must have been completed within six months of the internship start date. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the projects and tasks involved in the internship.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, preferably initial experience in development cooperation or the private sector. This experience will help the intern navigate the challenges of the role and contribute effectively to the team's objectives. The emphasis is on candidates who are currently enrolled as students or have graduated recently, ensuring they are familiar with current academic and practical knowledge in the field.

Languages:
Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of German or French is considered an asset, and additional language skills are advantageous. This linguistic proficiency is essential for effective communication within the team and with stakeholders in the region.
