The Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children (SRSG-VAC) serves as a global advocate, mobilizing political support and action to address the harmful effects of violence on children. Interns will support the SRSG in various capacities, including administrative tasks, organizing events, conducting research, and enhancing child participation in initiatives aimed at eliminating violence against children. This role is crucial in maintaining momentum around the agenda of child protection and promoting behavioral and social change.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including monitoring developments related to efforts to end violence against children, assisting with administrative duties for the Office of the SRSG-VAC, organizing conferences and meetings, taking notes, and summarizing discussions. They will also support research efforts at national and regional levels, update country profiles, and prepare for country visits. Additionally, interns will help strengthen child participation by preparing child-friendly documents, documenting youth-led initiatives, and expanding networks of organizations that encourage children's involvement in vulnerable settings. Interns may accompany team members to meetings with delegates and participate in sessions of the Security Council and General Assembly, performing any other functions as requested by their supervisor.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). No prior work experience is required, but relevant training, education, or skills that can benefit the UN during the internship are encouraged. Previous UN internship experience should be noted, including the entity and assignment dates if applicable.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a strong educational background, either in a graduate program or in the final year of an undergraduate program.
