Job Overview: The position of Asociado/a de Programas at WFP involves coordinating the implementation of food assistance programs, specifically focusing on providing hot meals in prioritized educational settings. The role requires collaboration with national and local government actors to ensure effective program delivery. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and supervising a team, ensuring that all activities align with WFP's policies and the operational needs of the communities served. This position is crucial for supporting vulnerable populations, including victims of violence and marginalized communities, by enhancing their access to nutritious food and building their resilience against climate change. The role also includes preparing reports, analyzing data related to food assistance needs, and ensuring compliance with quality standards in program implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide specialized technical and administrative support to ensure the effective implementation of assigned projects, adhering to WFP and government policies.
Coordinate and manage agreements between WFP and government entities for program implementation, ensuring activities align with established objectives.
Prepare substantial reports and data analyses regarding food assistance needs, resource utilization, and program progress, making recommendations as necessary.
Ensure accurate and timely data recording within the technical area of responsibility and maintain consistency in information presented to stakeholders.
Liaise with internal WFP units involved in program activities to ensure collaboration and effective resolution of complex issues.
Foster relationships and establish agreements with local partners, NGOs, and government institutions to enhance program contributions and ensure efficient implementation.
Support capacity development for WFP staff, partners, and government personnel within the technical area.
Act as a focal point for technical and operational inquiries related to the area of responsibility.
Supervise assigned support staff, providing guidance and training to meet project and team objectives. 1
Lead planning, implementation, and monitoring phases of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with procurement standards and procedures. 1
Serve as the operational and programmatic liaison between WFP and local government entities, participating in relevant meetings and committees. 1
Respond promptly to local or national government inquiries regarding project execution. 1
Provide information for progress reports on technical and administrative aspects of program implementation, consolidating processes and results, including lessons learned and best practices. 1
Report on project progress and challenges, coordinating with WFP focal points for corrective actions as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Completion of secondary education is required. A professional degree in industrial engineering, food engineering, business administration, economics, health sciences, social sciences, or related fields is desirable. Additional studies in management or project management are also preferred.
Experience: A minimum of six years of professional experience is required, including at least three years of specific experience related to program coordination in food assistance, capacity strengthening, emergency response, or social/economic programs. Experience with humanitarian organizations, particularly within the UN system, is desirable. Supervisory experience and work in complex territories in Colombia are also preferred.
Knowledge: Proficiency in office software tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, presentation programs, and database management systems is essential. Familiarity with UN administrative rules and procedures and systems like WINGS, COMET, and SCOPE is desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires completion of secondary education, with a preference for candidates holding a professional degree in relevant fields such as industrial engineering, food engineering, business administration, economics, health sciences, or social sciences. Additional qualifications in management or project management are considered advantageous.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of six years of professional experience, with at least three years specifically related to program coordination in areas such as food assistance, capacity building, emergency response, or social/economic programs. Experience working with international humanitarian organizations, particularly within the UN system, is highly desirable. Supervisory experience and familiarity with complex operational environments in Colombia are also preferred.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position. Intermediate proficiency in English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract is a Service Contract for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is based in Bogotá, with the requirement for travel to program implementation areas. The role is classified at the SC6 remuneration level. Candidates will be considered for a roster for future opportunities in other locations, and inclusion in the roster does not guarantee immediate employment.
