Job Overview: The Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) plays a crucial role in the implementation of Assisted and Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) projects in The Gambia. This position involves managing all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices, ensuring compliance with various framework agreements with resettlement and receiving governments. The assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager and overall supervision of the Officer-In-Charge for The Gambia. The role requires a proactive approach to support individuals during their travel and stay at transit centers, ensuring their safety, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and comfort throughout the process. The assistant will also be responsible for data entry and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information, while providing regular feedback to supervisors regarding the progress of tasks and any issues that arise.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) will undertake a variety of field support activities, including but not limited to: performing airport services such as verifying identities and travel documentation, assisting with airport formalities, and providing custodial care of travel documents. The assistant will also support individuals at transit centers or third-party facilities, ensuring their needs are met during their stay, including orientation, food distribution, and assistance with medical appointments or onward travel. Responsibilities include entering and updating data in relevant systems, coordinating transportation logistics, assisting with baggage handling, and providing interpretation services as needed. The assistant must communicate effectively with third-party facility representatives and supervisors, report any issues immediately, and maintain confidentiality and integrity of all paperwork in accordance with organizational standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma with four years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in social science, International Relations, Regional Studies, or a related field from an accredited institution with two years of relevant work experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to organize effectively are essential for this role. Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office, is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social science, International Relations, or Regional Studies. The degree must be from an accredited academic institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates with a high school diploma must have four years of work experience, while those with a Bachelor’s degree must have at least two years of relevant work experience.
Experience: Prior experience in Movement Operations or transportation is strongly preferred for this position. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of the processes involved in managing travel for migrants and refugees, as well as experience in providing support in transit centers or similar environments. Experience in coordinating logistics and working with diverse populations is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in two local languages, specifically Mandinka and Wolof. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is considered an advantage, as IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary communication standards.
