Job Overview: The Principal Investment Officer will play a crucial role in expanding portfolio solutions for IFC’s trade and supply chain finance programs. This position involves the implementation of various trade portfolio solutions by collaborating with financial institutions and corporates. The officer will report directly to the CTS Global Manager and will be based in Washington DC. The role is pivotal in identifying bankable trade finance programs, particularly in IDA/FCS countries, and requires strong executive relationships with banks and other financial institutions. The Principal Investment Officer will also be responsible for structuring trade solutions, ensuring due diligence, and monitoring the performance of trade finance transactions. This position is essential for deepening IFC's knowledge in trade and supply chain finance and leading industry best practices in emerging markets.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal Investment Officer is expected to lead the development of portfolio solutions for IFC’s trade and supply chain finance programs. Key responsibilities include:
Leading the structuring of portfolio trade solutions, ensuring thorough due diligence and timely processing.
Identifying bankable trade finance programs, particularly targeting projects in IDA/FCS countries, and collaborating with Regional Leads at CTS and other industry groups across IFC.
Monitoring the performance of trade finance portfolio transactions and staying informed of emerging market changes.
Providing expert knowledge in trade and supply chain finance, including mobilization, deal structuring, and crisis response.
Identifying business opportunities in trade and supply chain finance that align with corporate priorities, including job creation.
Deepening IFC and World Bank’s knowledge in trade and supply chain finance and leading the industry landscape to implement best practices in emerging markets.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 12 years of experience in trade and supply chain finance, ideally with a local or international commercial bank, other financial institutions, or international organizations. A Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance or business is required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to make judgments based on a solid understanding of World Bank Group and IFC policies, as well as experience in successfully managing teams and leading for results. The ability to develop innovative solutions and challenge the status quo is essential, along with a demonstrated investment track record in sourcing, structuring, and managing trade and supply chain finance transactions. Strong analytical and quantitative skills are also necessary, along with the highest standards of ethical integrity, transparency, and fairness.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance or business is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage trade and supply chain finance transactions and contribute to the development of innovative financial solutions.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in trade and supply chain finance. This experience should ideally be gained in a local or international commercial bank, other financial institutions, or international organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record in sourcing, structuring, and managing trade finance transactions, demonstrating their ability to lead teams and achieve impactful results.
