Job Overview:
The Communications and Media Assistant position is situated within the Communications and Media Section of ERSKI-D at UN-Habitat's Nairobi duty station. The role is integral to communicating UN-Habitat’s key messages to stakeholders and partners, raising awareness on urban issues, and promoting the organization's work and knowledge on a global scale. The incumbent will be responsible for enhancing the visibility and outreach of UN-Habitat by developing and disseminating communication materials across various formats, including digital, print, and multimedia outputs. This position also involves managing UN-Habitat's digital platforms to ensure they are functional, user-friendly, and visually appealing, while also supporting timely updates for meetings and conferences. The role requires collaboration with various teams to align advocacy and technical content with the broader organizational strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications and Media Assistant will perform a wide range of duties, including providing specialized assistance in the production and delivery of information communications products and services. Responsibilities include enhancing visibility and outreach through the development of communication materials, supporting marketing and promotional activities, managing internal databases, updating the website, researching and compiling information for communications products, coordinating media coverage of events, planning major exhibits, creating designs for promotional materials, assisting in video/film projects, and providing general office support. The role also involves monitoring digital audio workstations, guiding junior staff, and assisting with data collection and analysis for reports and presentations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a bachelor’s degree in public communication, journalism, or a related area being desirable. The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in communications, digital content management, web publishing, or a related field. Familiarity with CMS platforms such as WordPress or Drupal, as well as proficiency in HTML and CSS, is desirable. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and data analytics is also preferred.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma as a minimum, with a bachelor’s degree in public communication, journalism, or a related field being highly desirable. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and media production.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in communications, digital content management, web publishing, or a related field. Candidates should have experience using content management systems (CMS) and familiarity with digital media production tools. Experience in data analytics or related areas is also desirable, indicating a need for analytical skills in assessing communication effectiveness.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, such as French, is desirable. Fluency is defined as being able to read, write, speak, and understand the language at a high level, while knowledge indicates a confident ability in at least two of the four language skills.

This position is temporarily available for a duration of 364 days. If the selected candidate is already a staff member of the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be treated as a temporary assignment. The position is subject to funding availability and may be limited to candidates based at the duty station.
