Job Overview:
The Head of the Arabic Language Service is a pivotal role within the IAEA's Language Services Section. This position involves overseeing the Arabic Language Service team, which is responsible for the translation, editing, and drafting of various types of content, including administrative, legal, economic, scientific, and technical documents. The incumbent will ensure the high quality and timely delivery of Arabic content, manage the performance of team members, and provide training and guidance to enhance the team's capabilities. The role requires a deep understanding of the IAEA's mission and activities, as well as a commitment to promoting multilingualism and maintaining language standards within the organization. The Head will also be involved in assessing new talent and ensuring that the Arabic Language Service meets the demands of the IAEA's diverse stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the Arabic Language Service team, ensuring effective collaboration among professional staff and freelancers.
  • Revise and edit Arabic content produced by team members, ensuring accuracy and adherence to high-quality standards.
  • Draft, translate, and edit documents as required, covering a wide range of subjects.
  • Make authoritative decisions regarding terminology and language use, and assess the linguistic competence of team members and freelancers.
  • Provide training and guidance to enhance the skills of the Arabic Language Service team and the Multilingual Output Production Team.
  • Implement innovative solutions and best practices in the production of Arabic language content, as directed by the Section Head.
  • Monitor the performance of the team in meeting deadlines and achieving objectives, providing support and resources as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced university degree in translation, languages, or a related field. A university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in translation, with at least four years in an international organization, public sector, or non-profit organization.
  • Experience in supervising teams of translators is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and IT translation tools, particularly Trados Studio and MultiTerm.
  • Excellent oral and written command of Arabic and English; knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in translation, languages, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in the field of translation. Candidates should have at least four years of experience working in an international organization, public sector, or non-profit organization. Experience in supervising teams of translators is considered an asset, as it demonstrates the ability to manage and lead a team effectively in a multilingual environment.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are Arabic and English, with an excellent command required in both oral and written forms. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $101,540, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Additional benefits include a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses, six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan, and health insurance.
