Job Overview: The Senior Statistics and Data Analysis Associate will play a crucial role in supporting UNHCR's operational activities in Armenia, particularly in the context of the recent influx of refugees from the Karabakh region. This position requires a strong background in statistical analysis and data management, with a focus on planning, programming, and advocacy. The associate will be responsible for contributing to data management strategies, ensuring compliance with UNHCR's policies, and providing technical advice on statistical analyses. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Statistics and Data Analysis Associate include:
Contributing to data management strategies with a focus on statistical analysis for planning and advocacy.
Implementing UNHCR's policies on operational planning and reporting.
Providing technical advice on statistical analyses and quality assurance.
Developing and revising statistical concepts and methodologies for research and decision-making.
Supporting compliance with organizational standards in data analysis activities.
Compiling and disseminating official statistics on populations of concern.
Supporting the design and implementation of statistical products and overseeing their production.
Participating in inter-agency meetings to collaborate on evaluations and indicator design. 1
Conducting data analysis activities and advising on statistical methods. 1
Contributing to technical reports and recommendations for strengthening data analysis. 1
Providing administrative support for capacity strengthening activities. 1
Organizing and participating in workshops and expert meetings.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Sciences, Statistics, Demography, Geography/GIS, Epidemiology, Economics, or a related field. Candidates must possess functional skills in data collection methodologies, data management, statistical analysis, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Core competencies such as accountability, communication, teamwork, and client orientation are essential. Managerial competencies like judgment and decision-making, as well as cross-functional competencies including technological awareness and planning, are also required. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in a data or statistical field, preferably in contexts related to forced displacement and refugee situations.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Statistics, Demography, Geography/GIS, Epidemiology, Economics, or Data Management. Advanced degrees or certifications in these areas are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in data or statistical fields, particularly with national or international statistical systems. Candidates with experience in data collection and analysis in field situations, especially in relation to forced displacement, will be prioritized. Familiarity with tools such as R, Kobocollect, and PowerBI is considered a plus. Candidates should also have experience working with various partners, including governmental and humanitarian organizations.
Languages: The mandatory languages for this position are English and Eastern Armenian, with excellent command required in both written and spoken forms. Knowledge of Russian or other UN languages is desirable and may enhance a candidate's qualifications.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position requiring physical presence in the office in Yerevan, Armenia. The contract duration is from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026, with the possibility of renewal. The position is classified at the G7 level, and compensation will be based on the UN Common System salary scale in Armenia, paid in Armenian Drams (AMD).
