This position is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week. The intern will work under the supervision of a designated staff member within the CPCJ Programme at UNODC. The role involves supporting the implementation of the PLEAD Phase II initiative, which aims to enhance the rule of law, access to justice, and accountability in Kenya's justice system. The intern will contribute to various programmatic activities, including research, planning, coordination, documentation, and communication efforts to raise awareness about the program's impact.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Substantive Support: Assisting in the implementation of program initiatives related to crime prevention and criminal justice, conducting research and analytical work on relevant topics.
Programme Planning and Coordination: Contributing to the organization of program activities such as meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and preparing reports and documentation to support these activities.
Documentation and Presentation Development: Assisting in the preparation of materials for presentations, speeches, and meetings with stakeholders.
Communications and Visibility: Supporting the development and maintenance of social media content to enhance the program's visibility.
Administrative Support: Assisting with procurement processes and related documentation.
Other Duties: Undertaking additional tasks as needed to support the program's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent), preferably in Law, Criminology, Political Science, or Criminal Justice. Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications and demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, along with the ability to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or having recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program, preferably in fields related to Law, Criminology, Political Science, or Criminal Justice. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree will be required during the application process.
Experience: While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship. This means that candidates should ideally have academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in crime prevention and criminal justice.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
