Job Overview: The consultant will work under the guidance of the Coordinator of the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team, contributing to key objectives such as partnership and programme management, capacity building and training, and advocacy and communication. The role is critical in supporting the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level, which is essential for the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The consultant will engage with various stakeholders, including local and regional governments, to enhance their capacity to implement SDG-related initiatives. This position requires a proactive approach to developing partnerships, managing programmes, and facilitating training sessions that empower local governments to take action towards achieving the SDGs. The consultant will also play a vital role in advocating for the importance of localizing the SDGs and communicating the outcomes of various projects and initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
**Partnerships and Programme Management**: Providing strategic advice on partnership engagement, drafting partnership proposals and agreements, expanding existing partnerships, mobilizing resources, and supporting the implementation of SDG localization programmes. The consultant will also prepare for coordination meetings with implementing partners, support project development opportunities, and assist with administrative processes related to project implementation.
**Capacity Building and Training**: Developing capacity-building methodologies and tools, organizing and delivering training activities, and preparing training materials. The consultant will coordinate with partners to ensure effective delivery of capacity-building initiatives.
**Advocacy and Communication**: Connecting project activities with advocacy efforts, providing strategic advice for background materials and social media outreach, and coordinating with the communication focal point for project dissemination. The consultant will ensure that project activities are effectively communicated to stakeholders and the public.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Architecture, Data and Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of two years of relevant working experience in sustainable development, local governance, urban planning, and project management is required. Experience with the 2030 Agenda and local implementation of the SDGs is highly valued, as it demonstrates an understanding of the complexities involved in achieving sustainable development at the local level.
Educational Background: The position requires a University Degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Architecture, Data and Statistics, or Development Studies. This educational background is essential to equip the consultant with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively engage with issues related to sustainable development and urbanization.
Experience: The consultant should have at least two years of relevant working experience. This experience should encompass areas such as sustainable development, local governance, urban planning, and project management. Familiarity with the 2030 Agenda and the local implementation of the SDGs will be particularly beneficial, as it indicates a strong understanding of the global goals and their relevance to local contexts.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this consultancy role. Additionally, knowledge of another UN official language, particularly Spanish, is considered an asset. This linguistic capability will enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and facilitate the dissemination of information across different regions.
