Job Overview: The Movement Operations Associate plays a crucial role in the organized movement of individuals requiring international migration assistance, which is a primary mandate of IOM. This position involves coordinating travel arrangements for migrants and refugees, ensuring compliance with IOM's operational standards and procedures. The associate will work under the supervision of both a general and direct supervisor, engaging in various movement operations activities that include scheduling and booking travel, managing travel documentation, and providing support to beneficiaries at ports of entry in the USA. The role requires a strong understanding of movement workflows and the ability to interact professionally with various stakeholders, including airlines and customs authorities. The associate will also be responsible for maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all operations, adhering to IOM's standards of conduct, and ensuring that the needs of vulnerable individuals are met during their travel.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Movement Operations Associate will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: coordinating and booking travel for individuals based on their travel-ready status; organizing and completing bookings in a timely manner according to IOM's Handbook of Tariffs and standard operating procedures; distributing travel information to stakeholders; compiling and analyzing travel-related statistics; creating movement data files for accountability; identifying and assigning escorts for vulnerable individuals; processing exit permission paperwork; conducting identity and document verification; providing pre-departure counseling; assisting beneficiaries at U.S. ports of entry; facilitating immigration and customs formalities; preparing required paperwork for post-arrival formalities; and maintaining communication with relevant authorities to resolve any issues that arise during the travel process. The associate will also be expected to demonstrate a thorough understanding of IOM's movement operations SOPs and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma with at least five years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, International Relations, Regional Studies, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant work experience. Additionally, candidates should have operational experience at a U.S. port of entry, a strong understanding of movement workflows, and direct coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Experience in movement operations, transportation management, and guiding junior staff members is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision are essential.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include either a high school diploma with five years of work experience or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Science, International Relations, or Regional Studies from an accredited academic institution. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a recognized and quality education that prepares them for the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have operational experience at a U.S. port of entry, demonstrating a strong understanding of movement workflows and direct coordination with CBP. Candidates should also have prior experience in movement operations, particularly in resettlement programs, and should be comfortable communicating with beneficiaries. Experience in leading and guiding junior staff members is also advantageous, as is familiarity with airline processes and CBP procedures relevant to the movement of IOM-assisted beneficiaries.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and while fluency in one of these languages is required, a working knowledge of another official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role with a contract duration of six months, subject to funding confirmation. It is open only to U.S. citizens and residents, as work visas or authorizations are not permitted. The estimated start date is as soon as possible, and the monthly salary for this position is $5,508.3

The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that is incompatible with its aims and objectives, including sexual exploitation and abuse, and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
