Job Overview:
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the Deputy coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Finance Coordinator in managing the accounting operations of Solidarités International on the mission. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with SI's rules and procedures regarding financial commitments and expense tracking at both the base and coordination levels. The Senior Accountant will provide administrative support to various teams concerning accounting matters, centralizing the accounting for different bases, verifying monthly accounting packs, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The role requires a proactive approach to managing financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and facilitating communication between departments to ensure smooth financial processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant's duties include managing the mission's accounting by centralizing accounts for various bases, verifying monthly accounting packs, conducting systematic checks of cash advances, preparing monthly accounting documentation, and ensuring timely payments for lease contracts. The role also involves monitoring cash box inventories, bank reconciliations, and integrating exchange rates into the accounting system. Additionally, the Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the creation and return of vouchers, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. The position includes supervising the annual closure of accounts, training new accounting staff, and developing new accounting policies to harmonize practices across the mission. Team management responsibilities include training and supervising finance officers and participating in administrative team workshops.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in finance or accountancy and have a minimum of three years of experience in finance management, particularly in a similar role within an international non-governmental organization (INGO). Strong skills in financial management, accounting principles, and compliance are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple tasks and supporting various partners.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in finance or accountancy is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding complex financial systems and accounting practices, which are critical for the role of Senior Accountant.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in finance management, specifically in roles similar to that of a Senior Accountant. Previous experience working with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) is highly desirable, as it equips candidates with the necessary skills and understanding of the unique challenges faced in humanitarian finance management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing skills being essential for effective communication and reporting. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and partners in the region.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a short-term contract with a duration of six months, starting on October 1, 2025, with the possibility of extension. The role is based in Damascus, Syria, and involves a full-time commitment. The monthly basic salary for this position is set at 1,620 USD, along with additional benefits and allowances.
