Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Office, providing psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support to victims of human rights violations, including survivors of gender-based violence. The role involves strengthening the capacities of prevention and protection teams, technical partners, and community protection networks in psychosocial care. The volunteer is expected to ensure quality work in line with UNFPA values and humanitarian principles, maintain regular reporting of protection activities, and collaborate effectively with partners. Additionally, the volunteer will act as the UNFPA focal point in the field and undertake any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The position is part of the UNFPA country program for 2022-2026, which aims to improve access to sexual and reproductive health services and reduce maternal mortality and gender-based violence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide psychosocial assistance to victims of human rights violations, including survivors of gender-based violence in listening and care centers and youth centers.
  • Strengthen the capacities of prevention and protection teams, technical partners, and community protection networks regarding psychosocial care for survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Ensure quality work in accordance with UNFPA values and humanitarian principles.
  • Regularly report on protection activities in the field and maintain effective collaboration and communication with partners.
  • Act as the UNFPA focal point in the field and undertake any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Enhance knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by engaging with UNV documentation and participating in UNV activities.
  • Familiarize and develop local forms of volunteering in the host country.
  • Reflect on the nature of voluntary actions undertaken and contribute to writing articles about field experiences for publication.
  • Promote the use of online volunteers and encourage local groups to utilize volunteer services when feasible.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, and a commitment to the principles of human rights and gender equality. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for self-awareness, ethical behavior, and the ability to innovate and embrace change. Strong analytical skills, initiative, creativity, and organizational abilities are essential. The candidate should also be adaptable and able to manage ambiguity and complexity in challenging environments.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, psychology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with experience in psychosocial support, community work, or human rights advocacy will be highly regarded. Training or certification in psychosocial support or counseling is an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in providing psychosocial support, particularly to vulnerable populations. Experience working with NGOs, community organizations, or international agencies in a similar capacity is desirable. Familiarity with the local context and challenges faced by marginalized groups in Comoros will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Proficiency in English is an asset and would be considered a plus, especially for documentation and reporting purposes. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Comoros would also be advantageous.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is renewable based on funding availability, operational needs, and satisfactory performance. The volunteer will receive a monthly subsistence allowance to cover housing and basic needs, along with utilities. Medical insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance will be provided. Travel expenses to the duty station and a return ticket to the recruitment location will be covered. Additionally, a reinstallation allowance will be provided after satisfactory service. For duty stations classified under categories D or E, a monthly well-being allowance will be granted.
