Job Overview: The Partnerships Development Office (PDO) is tasked with developing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the East and Southern Africa region. The Partnerships Development Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the PDO team by assisting with various tasks that contribute to the development of partnerships. This internship provides an opportunity for hands-on experience, allowing the intern to develop practical skills that will enhance their career prospects. The intern will have access to the UNOPS Learning Zone Platform for skill development and will be encouraged to contribute innovative solutions to partnership development, leveraging their academic background.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnerships Intern will work within the East and Southern Africa Multi-Country Office (ESAMCO) in Nairobi, reporting to the Partnerships Specialist. The intern's responsibilities will include conducting research on donors and market trends, managing internal business acquisition systems, and providing administrative support for project documentation. Specific tasks include conducting analysis and mapping of donor priorities, preparing business and market analysis reports, researching events and publications to identify partnership opportunities, liaising with potential donors and partners, participating in meetings, developing project-related documents, and ensuring that organizational systems are updated regularly. The intern will also be responsible for providing regular reports on the business acquisition pipeline to the Partnerships Team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a University Degree Programme in fields such as economics, management, international affairs, political science, development studies, or other relevant disciplines from an accredited university. Recent graduates from such studies within the last three years will also be considered eligible. Additionally, candidates should possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite Applications, which is desirable for this role.
Educational Background: To qualify for this internship, candidates must be currently enrolled in a relevant university degree program or have graduated within the last three years. The preferred fields of study include economics, management, international affairs, political science, and development studies, among others. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of partnerships and development work.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of experience in government, diplomatic, non-governmental, or international civil service, particularly in the fields of partnerships, development, or communications. This experience is desirable as it provides a foundational understanding of the operational environment in which UNOPS functions.
Languages: Full working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of a second UN or regional working language is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
Additional Notes: This internship is classified as a 6-month contract and is not designed to lead to a permanent staff position with UNOPS. Interns may receive a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. Furthermore, UNOPS may offer a one-time travel lump sum of 500 USD.
