Job Overview:
The Data and Research Unit (UDR) is responsible for implementing a wide range of data collection operations to inform humanitarian interventions, recovery, transition, and development efforts. The position of Data and Research Unit Support Officer involves supporting various departments within IOM by assisting the UDR Coordinator in monitoring support activities across different units. The officer will act as a liaison between the UDR and supported units to assess their needs and implement necessary activities in a timely manner. This role also includes participating in field activities to better understand the needs of the units supported by the UDR, contributing to the recruitment and monitoring of field data collection agents, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration with humanitarian resources and finance for the payment tracking of field agents. The officer will also participate in data collection operations conducted by the UDR and contribute to data verification and cleaning processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the UDR Coordinator in monitoring support activities provided to other IOM units, including Shelter/NFI, Transition and Reintegration, WASH, Protection, Monitoring and Evaluation, Operations, CCCM, IBG, and VAC.
  • Liaise with supported units to assess their needs and implement UDR-supported activities promptly.
  • Participate in field activities of supported units to gain a better understanding of their requirements.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and monitoring of field data collection agents.
  • Coordinate with the DTM Project Assistant to follow up with humanitarian resources and finance for the payment tracking of field agents.
  • Participate in data collection operations implemented by the UDR, conducting interviews with target populations.
  • Collaborate with the Database Assistant to contribute to the verification and cleaning of collected data.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in project management, administration, economics, social sciences, or related fields with at least two years of relevant professional experience; or a secondary school diploma with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in conducting data collection operations.
  • Proficiency in using Kobo Collect or other data collection software.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage stressful situations.
  • In-depth knowledge of IOM's administrative and logistical procedures.
  • At least one year of experience in the humanitarian field.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess either a university degree in relevant fields such as project management, administration, economics, or social sciences, or a secondary school diploma with significant professional experience. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of data collection and analysis, ensuring that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge to support the UDR's operations effectively.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience if they hold a university degree, or four years if they have a secondary school diploma. Experience in data collection, particularly in humanitarian settings, is essential. Familiarity with data collection tools such as Kobo Collect is also required, along with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Languages:
The official languages of IOM are English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in French and Haitian Creole is mandatory, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of English is desirable but not required. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills in the required languages to effectively interact with diverse populations and stakeholders.
