Job Overview: The Mechanical Technician position is an entry-level role within the Mechanics and Logistics (ML) Section of the Beam Instrumentation (BI) Group at CERN. This role is crucial for the development, electro-mechanical design, construction, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation managed by the BI group. The technician will be responsible for overseeing the reception, quality inspection, and storage of ADEC mechanical components. The position requires participation in the assembly of mechanical structures, assisting in the dismantling of old equipment, and managing installation logistics. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of mechanical processes and a commitment to learning and growing within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Mechanical Technician, your primary responsibilities will include:
Procuring commercial components necessary for assembly and preparing the assembly area for efficient workflow.
Participating in both the dry and final assembly of the ADEC mechanical structure, ensuring that all components are assembled according to specifications.
Assisting in the dismantling of the old AD e-Cooler, which involves careful handling and adherence to safety protocols.
Managing the logistics of installing the ADEC machine, which includes coordinating with various teams and ensuring timely delivery of components.
Conducting quality inspections of mechanical components to ensure they meet the required standards before use.
Collaborating with team members to troubleshoot any issues that arise during the assembly or installation processes.
Maintaining a clean and organized workspace to promote safety and efficiency.
Documenting all processes and maintaining records of inspections and assemblies for future reference.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
A maximum of two years of professional experience in Mechanics or a related field since graduation.
A general secondary education diploma as the highest educational qualification.
Experience in producing and reading mechanical drawings, with the ability to understand assembly instructions.
Familiarity with mechanical assemblies and product life cycles, along with knowledge of quality management practices.
Basic knowledge of CAD software is considered an advantage.
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Applicants with higher educational qualifications such as a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a general secondary education diploma. This foundational education is essential as it provides the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to perform the duties of a Mechanical Technician effectively. A valid driving license is required, and candidates must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed. The position offers a monthly stipend of 4624 Swiss Francs (net of tax), comprehensive health coverage for the employee and their family, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances.
