Job Overview:
The position of 3D Mechanical Designer-Drafter at CERN is designed for experienced mechanical drafters with a strong background in 3D design. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the Infrastructure Section of the Site Asset Management Group within the Site and Civil Engineering Department. This role involves supporting HVAC, sanitary, and electrical activities through design, drafting, and calculation expertise. The candidate will be expected to contribute to high-profile projects that involve cutting-edge infrastructure and facility design, making a significant impact in an innovative engineering environment. The position requires a proactive approach to project design and coordination, ensuring that all design activities are organized and effectively managed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the 3D Mechanical Designer-Drafter include:
  • Drafting: Create, develop, and manage 2D/3D designs using REVIT and AUTOCAD for both existing and new HVAC, sanitary, and electrical installations.
  • Team Management and Technical Support: Organize and oversee design activities, monitor progress, enhance team skills, and provide technical support in HVAC, sanitary, and electrical domains.
  • Project Design and Coordination: Facilitate project phases from feasibility to execution, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
  • BIM Development: Ensure that CAD/BIM tools are consistent, interoperable, and up to date, supporting the evolution of standards and procedures in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Scans and Point Cloud Management: Produce, manage, and integrate 3D scans and point clouds into the design process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in project execution.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a technical certificate or general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience in HVAC, sanitary, and electrical engineering design or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have extensive experience in the development and design of tertiary and industrial buildings, proven proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, and experience in team management. Familiarity with 3D scans and a background in civil engineering building trades are also essential qualifications for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a technical certificate or general secondary education in a relevant field, such as HVAC, sanitary, or electrical engineering design. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education. Candidates should have a strong foundation in engineering principles and practices related to building design and construction.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience in the development and design of tertiary and industrial buildings. Candidates should have proven experience in using Revit and AutoCAD, preferably with knowledge of several 3D software applications. Experience in team management and working with 3D scans is also essential, as the role involves overseeing design activities and ensuring effective collaboration within the team.

Languages:
