Job Overview: The Copyediting Officer position is situated within the Information Access Unit (IAU) of the Office of the Secretary at ADB. This role is crucial for ensuring that all documents circulated to the Board of Directors adhere to ADB's established policies, procedures, and international standards. The Copyediting Officer will provide technical guidance and support to the editing team, ensuring that Board documents are accurately edited for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and overall clarity. The officer will also collaborate with various departments to develop and maintain document templates, ensuring that they reflect current ADB policies and procedures. This position requires a proactive approach to resolving issues and providing guidance to staff on document preparation, thereby playing a vital role in the effective communication of ADB's strategic objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Copyediting Officer, your primary responsibilities will include:
Copyediting Board documents to ensure accuracy in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
Monitoring compliance with ADB's policies, procedures, and the Handbook of Style and Usage (HSU).
Collaborating with the Strategy, Policy, and Partnerships Department to review and update Board document templates.
Providing guidance to internal clients regarding the application of editing standards and template requirements.
Developing and maintaining the IAU pages on the SEC website to ensure accessibility of guidelines and templates.
Supporting International Staff editors in overseeing the work of consultant editors and building staff capacity through workshops.
Engaging in knowledge management activities and contributing to various departmental projects and initiatives.
Responding to queries from internal clients and resolving sensitive issues as necessary.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for the Copyediting Officer position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field.
A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in copyediting or a similar role.
Demonstrated client orientation and sensitivity to working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
A high degree of integrity in handling confidential matters.
Proficiency in standard software programs commonly used in multilateral organizations.
Ability to work collaboratively as a constructive team member and coordinate effectively across teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with a strong command of editing standards.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the principles of effective communication and editing, which are critical for the role of Copyediting Officer.
Experience: The position requires at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in copyediting or a related field. Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 additional years, conversion to a regular appointment, or termination at the end of the initial period based on ADB's needs and the employee's performance.
