Job Overview: The Associate Programme Management Officer (Special Assistant) will play a crucial role in supporting the Under-Secretary-General by providing substantive assistance in drafting and reviewing various documents, conducting independent research, and preparing written outputs. The position involves coordinating the Under-Secretary-General's calendar, organizing official engagements, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. The officer will also support internal coordination within the office, track deliverables, and contribute to the planning and execution of events related to digital cooperation. This role requires a proactive approach to managing multiple tasks and ensuring that all activities align with the strategic objectives of UNODET.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Programme Management Officer (Special Assistant) include:
Providing substantive assistance to the Under-Secretary-General by drafting and reviewing memoranda, letters, emails, analytical notes, reports, and other documents.
Conducting independent research and analysis to draft effective responses and contribute to various written outputs.
Coordinating the Under-Secretary-General's calendar, planning and organizing official missions, and preparing relevant briefing materials.
Supporting the organization of official engagements, including meetings, receptions, roundtables, and training workshops.
Attending meetings with digital cooperation actors and drafting accurate minutes while tracking follow-up actions.
Supporting internal coordination by monitoring deliverables and contributing to internal reporting.
Providing administrative support related to human resources, finance, budget, procurement, and travel management.
Performing other duties as required to support the office's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in business administration, public administration, hospitality management, economics, marketing, accounting, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted. Candidates with a first-level university degree and no experience may apply if they have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE), or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in relevant fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) may be accepted with additional work experience. Candidates who have passed specific UN examinations may also be eligible with a first-level degree and no experience.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration, or a related area is required. Candidates must have at least two years of experience in a front office setting at the United Nations or a similar international organization. Additionally, one year of experience providing executive support for senior officials, including planning and organizing meetings and liaising with high-level stakeholders, is required. Experience in global digital cooperation and knowledge management is desirable, as is experience in planning high-profile events in an intergovernmental setting.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile for the role.
