Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Environment (ENV) Section of the Air Transport Bureau (ATB) at ICAO. The ENV section is dedicated to supporting ICAO’s Strategic Objective of Environmental Protection, which encompasses the development of policies, guidance, and initiatives aimed at mitigating the environmental impacts of international civil aviation. The intern will primarily focus on enhancing outreach efforts, increasing ICAO's visibility, and improving coordination with UN entities and other organizations regarding sustainable airport infrastructure and operations. This role also involves supporting global events, documentation, and inter-agency coordination related to sustainability in aviation. The intern will report directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Environment and will work closely with the Chief of Climate Change and relevant Environment Officers, gaining valuable experience in the field of environmental management within the aviation sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Deputy Director, Environment, and other senior staff. Key responsibilities include: assisting in drafting, editing, and publishing deliverables for the CAEP Working Group 2, utilizing appropriate tools to disseminate information and best practices on environmental management projects at airports; supporting research activities focused on environmentally sustainable airports and international aviation operations, including maintaining daily updates to the ICAO OPS tracker tool; reviewing and updating ICAO public webpages related to airports and operations to enhance content quality and user experience; managing and visualizing data to effectively present the latest innovations in airport operations; planning, coordinating, and organizing ICAO seminars and events on aviation and the environment, including follow-up activities; developing and disseminating outreach materials such as articles, reports, pamphlets, videos, and PowerPoint presentations on aviation and environmental topics; and performing other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree program (second-level university degree or higher) in a relevant field such as aviation, environment, aeronautical/aerospace engineering, or computer science. For applicants from educational systems where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, completion of at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a degree is required. This ensures that candidates possess a solid academic foundation relevant to the internship.
Educational Background: Candidates are required to have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree program in a relevant field. Languages: Fluency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking, is essential for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of a second language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable. This linguistic capability will enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the intern's effectiveness in the role.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be covered by the intern. The internship duration ranges from three to six months, with the intern expected to work up to five days a week. Flexible arrangements may be available to accommodate part-time schedules for eligible students, in accordance with current off-campus work regulations. Interns are not permitted to engage in any other form of employment within ICAO during the internship period and are ineligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for six months following the end of their internship.
