Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Translation involves providing simultaneous translation services during a webinar focused on gender and National Biodiversity Strategies. The role requires translating from English to both French and Spanish, ensuring that the translations are concise and adhere to the organization's communication guidelines. This position is crucial for facilitating discussions that promote gender equality in biodiversity planning and policy processes. Volunteers will be equipped with the necessary materials and guidance to effectively engage with the content and audience, thereby contributing to the overarching goals of the UNDP's Gender Equality Strategy and Nature Pledge.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide simultaneous translation of a 1.5-hour webinar from English to French and Spanish.
Ensure that translations are accurate, concise, and in line with UNDP's communication guidelines.
Collaborate with the Gender Team at UNDP to understand the context and objectives of the webinar.
Engage with the audience through effective communication and translation practices.
Participate in preparatory meetings to familiarize oneself with the presentation materials and audience expectations.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality throughout the translation process.
Provide feedback on the translation process and suggest improvements where necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in English, French, and Spanish, with a strong command of both written and spoken forms.
Experience in simultaneous translation or interpretation, particularly in a webinar or conference setting.
Familiarity with gender issues and biodiversity topics is highly desirable.
Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
Educational Background: A background in languages, communications, environmental science, gender studies, or a related field is preferred. Formal education or training in translation or interpretation is an asset.
Experience: Previous experience in translation, particularly in the context of international development, gender equality, or environmental policy, is highly valued. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is a plus.
Languages: Mandatory: Proficiency in English, French, and Spanish. Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages relevant to biodiversity and gender discussions.
