Job Overview: The National Beekeeping Specialist will be responsible for providing expert services in sustainable beekeeping practices aimed at conservation efforts within Lebanon's nature reserves and their buffer zones. This role involves the implementation of strategies that promote biodiversity and sustainable agricultural practices through beekeeping. The specialist will work closely with local communities, government agencies, and conservation organizations to develop and execute programs that enhance the ecological balance while supporting local economies. The position requires a deep understanding of beekeeping, environmental conservation, and community engagement, ensuring that the initiatives are culturally appropriate and sustainable in the long term. The specialist will also be expected to monitor and evaluate the impact of the beekeeping programs, providing recommendations for improvements and adjustments as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement sustainable beekeeping practices that align with conservation goals in Lebanon's nature reserves.
Collaborate with local communities to promote beekeeping as a viable livelihood option while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Conduct training sessions and workshops for local beekeepers on best practices in beekeeping, hive management, and honey production.
Monitor the health of bee populations and assess the impact of environmental factors on beekeeping activities.
Work with governmental and non-governmental organizations to integrate beekeeping into broader conservation and agricultural policies.
Prepare detailed reports on the progress of beekeeping initiatives, including data analysis and recommendations for future actions.
Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness about the importance of bees in ecosystems and agriculture.
Ensure compliance with local and international regulations regarding beekeeping and environmental conservation.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in beekeeping, environmental science, or a related field. A proven track record of working with local communities and stakeholders in agricultural or conservation projects is essential. The candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups. Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and experience in project management will be highly regarded. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Biology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline will be considered an advantage. Specialized training or certifications in beekeeping or sustainable agriculture will also be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in beekeeping, agricultural development, or environmental conservation. Experience working in Lebanon or similar contexts will be an asset. Proven experience in project management and community engagement is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory. Knowledge of French or other languages will be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders.
