Job Overview: The Pedagogical Education Coordinator will play a crucial role in the UNDP's Programme 'Transforming education in Moldova through Model Schools', which aims to enhance the quality and effectiveness of Moldova's education system. This position involves overseeing the implementation of activities related to the revision of initial teacher training curricula and promoting the teaching profession. The Coordinator will ensure that all project activities meet the specified results outlined in the project concept document, adhering to quality standards and budget constraints. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and Research, the National Institute for Education and Leadership (INEL), and educational institutions. The Coordinator will also be responsible for designing and coordinating activities that engage teachers, school managers, and other educational stakeholders, applying human rights-based and gender equality approaches. This position is integral to the successful enhancement of teacher education quality in Moldova, contributing to the modernization of pedagogical curricula and the professional development of educators.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Pedagogical Education Coordinator will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
Coordination of effective planning and implementation of the pedagogical education component, ensuring technical oversight and alignment with project objectives.
Managing day-to-day activities and overall implementation processes, including planning and monitoring to optimize resource use.
Providing subject technical advice and support to ensure timely delivery of outputs within budget and quality standards.
Supporting the National Institute for Education and Leadership (INEL) in developing and implementing modernized initial teacher training concepts and curricular frameworks.
Coordinating the piloting of revised initial teacher training curricula within selected educational institutions.
Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions relevant to the project’s pedagogical education interventions.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of pedagogical interventions and documenting lessons learned.
Engaging with stakeholders to ensure alignment of interventions with national priorities and expectations.
Contributing to communication and reporting efforts, including progress reports and visibility of project activities. 1
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in Education Studies, Pedagogy, Educational Leadership, Social Studies, Economics, or closely related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s Degree) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience will be considered. A minimum of two years of progressively acquired experience in managing or implementing education programmes in international development, education reform, or capacity-building projects is required. Candidates should also have experience in teacher education, curriculum reform, and pedagogical training, as well as proficiency in using office software and web-based management systems. Additional desired skills include experience with monitoring and evaluation tools, stakeholder engagement, and previous work with UNDP or similar organizations.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree) in relevant fields such as Education Studies, Pedagogy, Educational Leadership, or related disciplines. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s Degree) may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in educational theory and practice, particularly in relation to teacher training and curriculum development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s Degree, or four years for those with a Bachelor’s Degree. This experience should be progressively acquired in managing or implementing education programmes, particularly in the context of international development or education reform. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of pedagogical practices, curriculum development, and teacher professional development activities, as well as experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders in the education sector.
Languages: Fluency in English and Romanian is mandatory for this position. Additionally, working knowledge of one or more languages relevant to Moldova, such as Bulgarian, Gagauzian, Romani, Russian, Ukrainian, or sign language, is considered an asset. Proficiency in multiple languages will enhance communication with various stakeholders and contribute to the effectiveness of the role.
Additional Notes: This position is part of a larger programme with a duration of 48 months and a total budget of USD 18.9 million. The role is expected to be full-time, and the successful candidate will work closely with various educational stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and Research and the National Institute for Education and Leadership.
