Job Overview: The Business Support Assistant (Programme) position is designed to support the WFP Armenia Country Office in mobilizing beneficiary communities and ensuring their active engagement in various projects. This role is crucial for enhancing community ownership and participation in WFP-supported interventions. The assistant will work closely with field office staff to plan, implement, and oversee project activities, ensuring that they align with WFP’s policies and procedures. The position requires a proactive approach to community engagement, data compilation for reporting, and the ability to identify challenges and opportunities within the project implementation process. The assistant will also be responsible for delivering training and awareness sessions to community members, thereby fostering a collaborative environment between local governments and communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Business Support Assistant (Programme) will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the mobilization of beneficiary communities to enhance ownership and engagement in projects; identifying ways to stimulate community involvement and decision-making; assisting field office staff in planning and overseeing interventions; providing project management and general office support; compiling data and preparing reports to inform operational decisions; ensuring effective communication and coordination with project target groups; identifying needs and challenges that hinder project implementation; delivering programmatic and technical training to community members; organizing and participating in project field-level events; and performing other related duties as required. The assistant will also be expected to deliver specific outputs, such as providing support to the programme team, capacity strengthening for beneficiaries, and timely report submissions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completion of secondary school education, with a college or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Economics, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or Socioeconomics considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have excellent training and facilitation skills, strong community mobilization abilities, and a solid understanding of the local context where the project activities take place. Familiarity with UN system policies and procedures is desirable, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes at least a secondary school education, with preference given to candidates holding a college or bachelor’s degree in fields related to the position. Relevant fields may include Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Economics, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or Socioeconomics. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of community development and project implementation.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with community development projects. This experience should include contributions to the implementation of programs, involvement in policy discussions, and activities related to NGOs, government institutions, or UN agencies. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of engaging with communities and facilitating project activities effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Armenian is mandatory, along with proficiency in English and Russian. These language skills are essential for effective communication with diverse stakeholders and beneficiaries in the region.
