Job Overview:
The Flagship Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the implementation and monitoring of Agenda 2063 flagship projects. This position is crucial for ensuring strategic coordination across African Union (AU) departments and partners, facilitating effective delivery, evaluation, and reporting of high-impact initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing cross-functional project teams, addressing logistical issues, and establishing implementation challenges and risks. The role requires a strong focus on resource mobilization to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness, as well as conducting complex analyses and generating reports to monitor and evaluate project progress. The coordinator will also share lessons learned and best practices across flagship projects, ensuring that all project management documents are maintained and updated regularly.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Flagship Project Coordinator include managing cross-functional project teams, liaising with flagship managers and coordinators across various organs and departments, and handling logistics issues such as compiling and distributing reports and coordinating workshops. The coordinator will establish implementation challenges, risks, and funding gaps affecting flagship projects, coordinating interventions for resource mobilization. Additionally, the coordinator will conduct complex analyses, generate accurate reports, and share lessons learned across projects. The role also involves maintaining project management documents, contributing to the development of strategies, policies, programs, and budgets, and ensuring the mainstreaming of Agenda 2063 activities into relevant programs. The coordinator will evaluate proposals for flagship projects, establish technical needs and risks, and coordinate with key stakeholders, including AU Organs, Regional Economic Communities, and other financiers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, or a Business-related area, with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in the same fields with a minimum of 7 years of experience. Proven experience in policy planning, program management, strategy management, and business process reengineering is essential. A professional qualification in project management is required, along with strong oral, written, and presentation skills. Candidates should demonstrate sound decision-making abilities, strong coordination skills, and good time management and organizational skills. The ability to work across diverse business units and geographies is crucial, as is proficiency in English, with knowledge of other AU working languages being an added advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, or a Business-related area, or a Master’s degree in similar fields. Candidates should have a strong foundation in project/program management and strategy management, with relevant professional qualifications in project management being mandatory.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience, with a minimum of 10 years for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years for those with a Master’s degree. Experience in policy planning, program management, and strategy management is essential, along with a proven track record in managing complex projects and programs.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional AU working languages such as Arabic, French, Spanish, or Portuguese would be considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the diverse context of the African Union.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered on a contract basis for a period of one year, with a salary set at P3 Step 5, inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff. The role is full-time, and candidates are encouraged to apply from AU member states only.
