Job Overview: The Driver position at WFP is crucial for ensuring safe and reliable transportation services for personnel and goods. The role involves operating UN assigned vehicles, maintaining them in excellent condition, and adhering to safety regulations. The Driver will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel to various destinations, ensuring timely delivery, and assisting with logistical support as needed. Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely operate UN assigned vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, goods, and equipment, following authorized routing and UN safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security rules and regulations to ensure safe and efficient services.
Maintain the assigned vehicle in a clean and good condition, ensuring it is fully equipped with required travel authorizations and supplies.
Provide transportation support for official meetings, missions, and field visits, ensuring punctuality and adherence to road safety regulations.
Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring that all items are properly secured during transport.
Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including regular cleaning, fuelling, and checking of oil, water, brakes, and other vehicle fluids.
Report any mechanical faults or issues promptly and ensure that necessary repairs are carried out in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, logbook of all trips, mileage, and fuel consumption.
Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations, both local and international, while driving UN organization vehicles, ensuring the safety and security of passengers and cargo.
Familiarize oneself with the organization's security protocols and implement them during missions or field visits. 1
Assist with the collection and delivery of mail, documents, and other official items as required. 1
Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems, seeking instructions and facilitating informative decisions on the way forward. 1
Support in other administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicles in accordance with local rules and regulations. A strong understanding of driving rules and regulations, as well as knowledge of local roads and conditions, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact. Additionally, candidates should have the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Basic skills to assist in case of emergency and knowledge of first aid methods are also required. Candidates should be familiar with safety standards and safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and buoyant wearable safety devices.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary school education is required. Formal driver training is essential, along with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicles. All educational documents must be verified/attested by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan, and appointment will be subject to submission of HEC-verified degrees.
Experience: Candidates should have two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks, and other kinds of motorized vehicles, is essential. Experience in defensive driving is desirable, as is familiarity with vehicle loading capacity and safety standards.
Languages: Fluency in English and the local language is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and operational effectiveness in diverse environments.
Additional Notes: This position is offered under a Service Contract for a duration of 12 months, specifically for Pakistan Nationals only.
