It operates in multiple countries around the world, with a diverse workforce dedicated to various global issues. The organization aims to foster international collaboration and address challenges such as human rights, development, and humanitarian assistance.

Job Overview:
This internship is structured as a rolling internship, meaning it does not have specific start and end dates. However, each participant must commit to a minimum duration of two calendar months, with the understanding that the total duration of an internship in the United Nations Secretariat may not exceed six months. The internship is unpaid and requires full-time commitment, with interns expected to work five days a week for a total of 40 hours. Interns will be supervised by the Chief of the Verbatim Reporting Section or another designated supervisor. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and experiences in their applications. The internship can be conducted either in person in New York or remotely, depending on the intern's circumstances. Regardless of the work location, the expected workload and duties will remain consistent.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for several key duties, including: (a) translating verbatim records of meetings from English into Russian, which must be the candidate's main language, for training and other purposes, subject to review; (b) transcribing or reviewing Russian transcriptions; (c) assisting with the testing of technologies, including speech-to-text applications; and (d) performing other related duties as required by the supervisor. Interns are expected to demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, teamwork, and technological awareness in their roles.

Required Qualifications:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Program. However, applicants should possess training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. Applicants must also provide proof of their educational status at the time of application.

Educational Background:
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements at the time of application: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree as defined in the previous points and must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. This ensures that interns are academically qualified and prepared for the responsibilities they will undertake.

Experience:
No working experience is required to apply for this internship. The United Nations welcomes candidates who can demonstrate relevant training, education, or skills that will contribute positively to the organization during their internship. This opens the opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain valuable experience in an international setting without the barrier of prior work experience.

Fluency in Russian, which must be the candidate's main language, is required for this internship. Additionally, fluency in English is also necessary. Knowledge of a third official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, or Spanish) would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile and ability to contribute to the organization's multilingual environment.

Additional Notes:
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, meaning they will not receive a salary or stipend. All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, including application, interview, or training.
